January: Sledding in Oregon

In Medford it rarely snows. If it snows a trace school is cancelled. If it snows 3 inches the whole town nearly shuts down. Despite this, there is snow readily available 40 minutes up the canyon at Mt. Ashland ski resort, or an hour away you can go sledding. We decided to go sledding in January before the opportunity was completely lost. The only problem is that you have to outfit your children who grow at an accellerated pace every year with snow clothes. Fortunately, Target was feeling my pain and had snow boots on clearance. We went to Goodwill and picked up some snow pants for the girls, bundled Ethan in oversized old clothes of Andrew's and off we went!

Ethan at first didn't know if he was going to like this.

Andrew took off for the toboggan run and was only seen at the end of the event exhausted.

The girls stuck close to me, having me drag them up the hill over and over again. Ethan would have me carry him, which on a steep incline with 45 extra pounds was not trivial and ended in some sleigh rides with me as the sled.

I told myself we got to do this again this winter. I knew winter was dissappearing quickly too so it had to be done soon! Well....its May today and we never went again. Hopefully the snow clothes get at least one use next year too.

Regardless the kids loved the day and the Costco Pizza had for lunch on the way home.
