September: Medford Fire

The kids and I went to see a movie and on the way home noticed the entire east hill were covered in smoke. This is very close to our neighborhood.

We got to the corner of Hillcrest and Foothill and watched fire helicopters lower large buckets and dip them in the irrigation pond at the Hillcrest Orchards, one block away from Nana and Grandpa.

There were also airplanes dropping flame retardant from the air. The kids watched in a complete stupor, completely mesmerized.

Fortunately all of our friends and their homes were safe. The fire came within 100 yards of my friend Sharon's home.

The fire closed down major roads for nearly 4 days. It took us over an hour to get home and we were only 1/4 mile from home.

This fire made NPR news and many friends called to check on us. It was sure amazing to watch.
